Warnock, who left Rotherham United in the summer, confirms he wanted the City Ground post prior to joining the Bluebirds.
Neil Warnock has told Talksport he was disappointed not to get the Nottingham Forest job before taking the reins at Cardiff City.
Warnock, who kept Rotherham United in the Championship against the odds last season, was sworn in at the Cardiff City stadium earlier this week – hoping to repeat the feat.
However, the 67-year-old confirms he had courted at least one other role in the meantime.
Warnock, who takes his new side to the City Ground at the end of October, told Talksport: “Now I were disappointed not to get the Forest job if I’m honest, earlier in the season.
“But they went in a different direction and, you know, that’s another cracking club.”
Said different direction saw the Reds appoint Frenchman Philippe Montanier as boss, but despite a bright start the two-time European Cup winners currently find themselves 18th in the Championship.
It is not only in relegation battles that Warnock seems to thrive, with a joint-record seven promotions on the former Sheffield United boss’s CV.
And, had Forest taken the plunge on Warnock, they could be in an entirely different situation.
The Yorkshireman also confirmed he hopes to add two or three free agents to his side in the coming weeks, with the BBC reporting that deals are close for ex-Leeds United defender Sol Bamba and former Queens Park Rangers winger Junior Hoilett.
