Derby County are reportedly hoping to raid Championship rivals Birmingham City for manager Gary Rowett.

According to The Sun, Derby County are keen to appoint Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett as their new boss following Nigel Pearson’s suspension.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Rams confirmed on their official website that manager Pearson – who was appointed as the club’s new boss over the summer – had been suspended with immediate effect.

It’s unclear just why Pearson has been suspended, but his assistant Chris Powell took charge against Cardiff City on Tuesday – a game which Derby won 2-0.
That was just Derby’s second win of the season in what has been a poor campaign so far, with the Rams struggling to find the back of the net, and it now looks like Pearson’s time at the iPro Stadium is numbered.

With that in mind, The Sun report that Derby have set their sights on Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett, who has worked wonders at St. Andrews since arriving from Burton Albion in October 2013.
Rowett, 42, has guided the Blues to two tenth placed finishes in the Championship, and having played almost 100 games for the club as a player, he’s certainly a popular figure at St. Andrews.

However, Derby are now keen to prise Rowett away from Birmingham, as owner Mel Morris is believed to have put him at the top of his list of targets to replace Pearson.
Rowett also used to play for Derby, turning out more than 100 times for the club before moving on to Birmingham – now, if Derby get their way, he’ll be making the opposite move by trading St. Andrews for the iPro Stadium.
