Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton and Crystal Palace stars feature.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has created 20 chances this season
The Premier League is now awash with extremely talented attacking and creative midfielders. Ozil, Payet, De Bruyne, Silva, Eriksen, Tadic, Mata, Lallana, Coutinho; the list goes on and on.
After six game weeks though, it is a surprise name who leads the Premier League’s chances created charts, with Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon having created a division high 22 opportunities for his teammates.
That impressive tally means the former Southampton man has created more chances than Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea’s Willian, who are joint second, having each created 20 chances so far this term.
No Premier League player has created more chances than Jason Puncheon this season
Two players each from Manchester City, Southampton, Tottenham and Liverpool feature in the top 10. David Silva unsurprisingly joins De Bruyne as Manchester City’s second most creative individual, the Spaniard having created 14 chances himself.
Tottenham duo Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela have both created 13 chances this season, level with the only defender to make the top 10, Liverpool full back Nathaniel Clyne.
The other Reds player to make the list is Roberto Firmino, who has created the fourth most chances in the league. The Brazilian midfielder has now scored a goal or made an assist in 61 of his last 90 appearances. The full top 10 is below:
Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino is in fine form
1. Jason Puncheon (Crystal Palace): 22
2. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City): 20
3. Willian (Chelsea): 20
4. Roberto Firmino (Liverpool): 19
5. Dusan Tadic (Southampton): 18
6. Nathan Redmond (Southampton): 14
7. David Silva (Manchester City): 14
8. Christian Eriksen (Tottenham): 13
9. Erik Lamela (Tottenham): 13
10. Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool): 13
Nathan Redmond is proving a great signing by Southampton
Willian’s inclusion may come as a surprise to some people, level with Kevin De Bruyne in second place, given that the Chelsea man has come in for a fair amount of criticism this season.
Two Southampton players making the top 10 is rather impressive by the ninth placed side, who are quietly going about their business nicely this season once again.
The chances created tally and assists tally do not run perfectly in tandem though, with Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne leading the league in terms of assists (4), followed by Alex Iwobi, Dimitri Payet, Kelechi Iheanacho and Adam Lallana (all 3).
