Stoke City remain anchored to the bottom of the Premier League after being humbled 4-1 by Crystal Palace. Reactions on Twitter fluctuated between panic and patience.

Crystal Palace found themselves two goals ahead early in the game against Stoke City thanks to goals from defenders James Tomkins and Scott Dann.

From that moment the Potters struggled to find any momentum or cohesion and could have been further behind before half-time.

The interval did little to rejuvenate another lacklustre Stoke performance and inevitably Mark Hughes’ side conceded a third, courtesy of a deflected James McArthur strike, then a fourth just four minutes later when Andros Townsend capped a fine showing with an impressive goal.

The one silver lining was found in Marko Arnautovic’s goal close to the final whistle, but it was too little too late.

Despite Stoke’s woeful start to the Premier league season – including already conceding four goals on three occasions – the reaction on social media site Twitter was a mixed one, with some fans calling for Hughes’ head and others preaching patience.

Here are some of the tweets in response to Stoke City’s loss at Crystal Palace.

The consensus appears to be that Stoke manger Mark Hughes could (or should!) be the first sacking of the season.

The stats do not do the former Wales, Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers boss any favours either.

Neither does the feeling among supporters that Hughes has lost the dressing room – something that can be the undoing of any manager.

Stoke’s fortunes are on the cards according to this Twitter user – a pattern that has spelled doom in the past for other clubs.

It also seems that some Stoke fans are starting to tire of Hughes’ perceived excuses.

At least two supporters were so unhappy that they requested a refund.

Elsewhere on Twitter, some Stoke City fans can’t believe the result and are in need of a pinch!

Twitter also suggests that Stoke are capable of performing better with the current squad that Mark Hughes has spent time and money forming since taking charge in 2013.
