According to The Telegraph, West Bromwich Albion’s board blocked Callum McManaman’s deadline day exit, with three clubs keen.

McManaman, 25, was on the books with Everton as a youngster but made his name with Wigan Athletic, particularly impressing with a superb display against Manchester City in the 2013 FA Cup final.

After 17 goals in 105 games for the Latics, McManaman earned a January 2015 move to West Bromwich Albion – and despite being snapped up by Tony Pulis, McManaman has barely featured under the Welsh manager.

With just 15 appearances last season, McManaman is down the pecking order at The Hawthorns, even despite their struggles in the final third, and he’s yet to even kick a ball this season.

Now, The Telegraph report that McManaman had interest from other clubs on deadline day, but the West Brom board blocked him from leaving the club.

It’s claimed that Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday were both hoping to sign McManaman, but their attempts hit a dead end – and Newcastle ended up signing winger Christian Atsu, whilst Wednesday snapped up Adam Reach.

It wasn’t only Championship clubs looking to sign McManaman though, as Hull City were also believed to be interested in signing the wide man, but were also rebuffed in their efforts to bring him to the KCOM Stadium.

Now, with no loan window available to Football League clubs, McManaman is stuck at The Hawthorns, and whilst he’s believed to be willing to fight for his place, his long-term prospects at West Brom don’t look great.
