Brian McBride does not expect Everton to finish above Liverpool in the Premier League table this season.
Brian McBride said on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Wednesday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, September 7, 2016) that Everton will not finish above Liverpool in the Premier League table this season.
The former USA international striker, who played on loan for Everton from Columbus Crew in 2003, believes that Ronald Koeman’s side should be aiming for a place in the Europa League.
“Everton’s not deep enough,” said McBride on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Wednesday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, September 7, 2016).
“I don’t think they have the quality throughout even in bringing on players that can really equal the quality that some of the big clubs have. So, if they get in the Europa League, I think that’s a great thing to be.”
“No, unfortunately,” said McBride when asked if Everton will finish above Liverpool.
Liverpool have a better squad than Everton and are probably more ambitious as well.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are aiming for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, while the Toffees should be targeting a top-10 spot and perhaps an Europa League place.
Everton, though, have made a better start to the season and find themselves fourth in the league table at the moment.
During the 2015-16 season, Leicester City showed that anything is possible by winning the Premier League.
West Ham United also came close to finishing in the Champions League places, and Everton should draw inspiration from that.
Everton will take on Sunderland away from home at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday evening.
