Lallana’s scoring output appears to have improved significantly.

It has been a relatively good start to the season for Adam Lallana. One of the main criticisms often levelled at him is that he does not chip in with enough goals for his side.

Including his matches for both Liverpool and England, Lallana has now found the net in two of his five appearances. If that return were to be extrapolated over the entire season, it will be a decent return from the 28-year-old.

But quietly, he might have been improving in front of goal since the turn of the year:

Averaging close to one goal in every four Premier League games is not a bad return for a midfielder at all, and it is a significant improvement on averaging one goal in nearly every 30 appearances.

Of course, it does not factor in his contribution in front of goal in last year’s Europa League run, but these two tables show a remarkable increase in goal-scoring output, and on average he is spending that little bit more time on the field in 2016 than he was last year.

Lallana will be hoping to continue the kind of form he has shown this calendar year, even if he is now playing in a deeper role for Liverpool this term compared to last.

Sunday’s win over Slovakia was an important moment for Lallana in his career. Despite many impressive performances for his country, his inability to find the net was always brought up and he will be hoping it’s the first of many. Judging by his Liverpool career in the past calendar year, there is a good chance he could up finding the net more regularly for both club and country.
