According to the Guardian (live transfer thread, August 30 2016 at 12:11), Derby County are eyeing a deal for Crystal Palace’s Jordon Mutch as a potential replacement for Jeff Hendrick.

Republic of Ireland international Hendrick has been heavily linked with a move away from the iPro Stadium this summer, with Burnley and Hull the two clubs seemingly leading the chase.

Recent reports from ESPN claims the Tigers have finally agreed a fee for the player, and now only personal terms stands between a switch to the KC Stadium ahead of the upcoming deadline.

The Rams have a surplus of midfielders with the likes of Jacob Butterfield, Will Hughes, Bradley Johnson, George Thorne and Craig Bryson on their books, yet Hendrick is arguably the most versatile of the bunch.

His potential exit would no doubt leave a void to fill in Nigel Pearson’s ranks, and fresh reports from the Guardian claim Palace midfielder Mutch is being considered as a replacement.

The 24-year-old was on the books of Derby having come through the club’s youth academy, yet despite being highly-rated in the East Midlands he opted to move to Birmingham City at 16.

Mutch went on to have a coupl of loan spells before joining Cardiff City in 2012, and after impressing with the Bluebirds he later joined Queens Park Rangers and then Palace 12 months ago.

He made a total of 20 Premier League appearances for the Eagles last term but amid new additions at Selhurst Park this summer, he may find first-team opportunities more limited.
