Luton Town have rejected a bid from Leeds United for highly-rated midfielder Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Ruddock Mpanzu is regarded as one of the best young prospects in the Football League after impressing for Luton Town last season and so far this term.

The all-action midfielder came to the fore with a man-of-the match display in Luton’s shock EFL Cup victory over Aston Villa earlier this month.

The 23-year-old followed that up with another impressive performance against Leeds in the next round of the EFL Cup and his showing caught the attention of Leeds boss Garry Monk.

Monk is looking to bolster his midfield options before the close of the transfer window and he sees Ruddock Mpanzu as a star in the making.

Leeds firmed up their interest in Ruddock Mpanzu with a bid, but Luton have rejected it as they look to keep hold of their best players at Kenilworth Road.

Former West Ham youngster Ruddock has established himself as a key member of the Luton side since initially joining the club on loan before making the move permanent in January 2014.

Luton tied Ruddock Mpanzu down to a new deal earlier this summer, but they could find their resolve to keep of the player further tested before the close of the transfer window on Wednesday.
