HITC Sport understands Algerian is high on Arsenal’s wanted list

Arsenal have made contact with Sporting Lisbon over striker Islam Slimani, HITC Sport understands.

The 28-year-old has long been linked with a move to England, but the likes of West Ham, Everton and Newcastle have all failed to do deal in recent seasons.

Now Arsenal are ready to turn to him having baulked at deals for other targets such as Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Slimani has scored 47 goals in 80 league games for Sporting since joining them in 2013 but HITC Sport understands the Algerian has told his club he wants to move to the Premier League.

Now Arsenal are willing to pay more than £25million for his signature, but it remains to be seen whether they will meet Sporting’s asking price – which is believed to be around £30million.

HITC Sport understands that talks are now ongoing behind the scenes but with only a week of the transfer window left, Arsenal will have to move quickly to secure the African.
