HITC Sport understands that The Hornets are favourites to land the Dutch full back

Watford have emerged as favourites to land Newcastle United full-back Daryl Janmaat, HITC Sport understands.

The 27-year-old signed for Newcastle in 2014 from Feyenoord following a hugely impressive World Cup with Holland.

Despite Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League, Janmaat had been committed to spending the season with them in the Championship but the club have decided to cash in and sell.

Janmaat is now set to move on for around £11 million which will near double their money on the right-back.

HITC Sport understands at least four Premier League clubs have contacted Newcastle, but Watford are very much in pole position.

It is understood the player has confirmed his desire to make the move to Vicarage Road, ahead of others and now Watford are looking to push ahead with a deal ahead of the likes of West Ham United and Everton.

"A deal is close, Janmaat has had a few options but Watford looks the likely destination at this point," a source told HITC Sport.

Newcastle have already moved to sign his replacement already in the shape of Tottenham's DeAndre Yedlin - who impressed with rivals Sunderland last season.
