Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has been suggested as a makeweight in a move for Jose Fonte.
Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo isn’t keen on joining Southampton as a makeweight in a deal for Jose Fonte.
United have snapped up a centre back already this summer in Ivorian international Eric Bailly, and he certainly impressed on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.

Bailly will be competing with the likes of Chris Smalling and Daley Blind this season, and whilst Jose Mourinho also has Phil Jones at his disposal, reports suggest he may want another centre back yet.
The Daily Mail report that United boss Mourinho is keen to land his compatriot Jose Fonte from Southampton to add a veteran presence in his back four – and Marcos Rojo has been suggested as a possible makeweight in the offer.

However, the report adds that Rojo isn’t so keen on a move to the South Coast, meaning United’s hopes of a swap deal have been dealt a huge blow.
Rojo, 26, joined United from Portuguese side Sporting in the summer of 2014 having impressed with Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil, and has now made more than 50 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

Capable of playing at centre back or left back, Rojo seemingly isn’t in Mourinho’s plans this season, having earned a reputation as being overly-aggressive and irresponsible defensively – and a departure could be on the cards before this month’s transfer deadline.
However, Southampton may not be his destination, as Rojo is allegedly not so keen on joining the Saints in a deal for Fonte, meaning Mourinhomay have to re-think his plans to sign the 32-year-old centre back.
