West Ham United captain Mark Noble has insisted to BT Sport that the absence of Dimitri Payet was no excuse for their loss to NK Domzale.

The Hammers travelled to Slovenia on Thursday evening looking for a positive result in their Europa League qualifier.

Things did not go to plan for them though, as a Matic Crnic brace saw his side secure a 2-1 to take back to the Olympic Stadium.

It was a disappointing evening for the Hammers, who sorely missed Dimitri Payet, as he is on extended leave after reaching the final of Euro 2016 with France.

Noble though, has said that the absence of their star man was no excuse for the defeat.

"You're going to miss a player like Dimi, of course,” he told BT Sport.

“But that's no excuse. We had a good enough team to come here and win, but we didn't do that.”

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers can bounce back from this defeat in the second leg.

It’s fair to say that the loss was a major surprise for Slaven Bilic’s team, who were likely expecting to secure a comfortable win against the Slovenians.

The pressure is now firmly on them to secure a positive win in the return leg, especially considering it will be their first game at the Olympic Stadium.
