Former Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael van der Vaart has told the club's official website that the Spurs side of the early 2010s was the best team he ever played in during his career.

The 33-year-old played in Harry Redknapp's team alongside the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale and helped the club reach the quarter-final of the Champions League in his first season.

He admitted it is the two years he spent at White Hart Lane which he says stick in his memory the most, four years after he left Spurs to return to Hamburg.

The current Real Betis star told the Spurs website that that free-flowing side was the best he ever played in, high praise considering some of the illustrious teams he has been a part of, as well as admitting that he misses his days at White Hart Lane "every minute".

Van der Vaart was part of a young Ajax team containing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wesley Sneijder, and starred for Real Madrid and the Netherlands national team.

However, he told the Spurs website: "You know, I was lucky because it was, in my opinion, maybe the best team I played with - Ledley [King], Luka [Modric], Scotty Parker, [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Jermain] Defoe, [Gareth] Bale.

"I’m 33 now and I’ve still time yet but I always tell everyone about those two years I played at Tottenham. They were great days at Tottenham."

Talk of that team will surely bring back fond memories for Tottenham fans, but the truth is that they could be considered to have an even better side now under Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino led the club to third last season, their highest finish in 26 years, and Spurs supporters will be optimistic of another bright season next term.
