Sheffield Wednesday are weighing up a £2 million bid for Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power, the Daily Mail reports.

Wednesday are said to want more energy in the middle of the park and are yet to replace Celta Vigo loanee Alex Lopez.

The report claims Power was watched by the Owls during Wigan's friendly defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, and he would appear to be a long-term for Carlos Carvalhal's side, whose interest was exclusively reported by HITC in January this year.

The 22-year-old began his career at Tranmere Rovers but moved to Wigan last summer, where he starred en route to the League One title - scoring six goals and creating another eight.

Wednesday midfielders Kieran Lee and Barry Bannan were regulars last season, though Lewis McGugan's limited involvement has raised question marks over his Hillsborough future.

The Owls recently handed a new deal to midfield stalwart Jose Semedo, however, the questionable fitness records of Sam Hutchinson and Filipe Melo Silva make a new recruit likely.

Power's ability to play anywhere across the middle of the park, in both defensive and attacking roles, is sure to appeal to Wednesday's dynamic head coach Carvalhal.
