Bristol City have invited highly-rated Northern Ireland youngster Joel Cooper on trial, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Cooper is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Northern Ireland after impressing at Glenavon last season.

The 20-year-old helped Glenavon win the Irish Cup last season and he also scooped major Player of the Year awards as a result of impressive displays.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international was also called up to train with the Northern Ireland senior squad in France as they prepared for their games at Euro 2016.

Cooper's performances have not gone unnoticed elsewhere with a number of clubs in England keeping tabs on the skilful winger.

Bristol City are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by taking Cooper on trial as they want to cast an eye over him at close quarters.

Cooper is set to link up with Bristol City's under-21s squad during their training camp in Belfast next week and if he impresses in training he could win a deal at Ashton Gate.
