Speaking to the club’s official website, Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg says Loris Karius has made a positive impression in training so far.

The goalkeeper was one of the first signings at the club this summer when joined from FSV Mainz 05 in May.

His arrival at the club as been hotly anticipated, with the hope being he can come in and challenge current number one Simon Mignolet.

In fact, a number of fans are keen to see the 23-year-old replace the Belgian is goal next season given he has hardly shone during his time at the club.

To do so he will have to make a positive impression on manager Jurgen Klopp in pre-season first, and Achterberg says he has done just that so far.

"He is pretty confident in his ability, he's calm, has good reactions and reads situations well - so it's all positive," Achterberg told

It now remains to be seen whether Karius will replace Mignolet as the Liverpool number one next season.

The Belgian had another difficult campaign, committing four errors that led to goals, the joint second worst record for goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Like much of the squad he showed improvement under Jurgen Klopp though and was handed a new deal earlier this year, suggesting the German has not given up on him just yet.
