Rangers boss Mark Warkburton hopes to sign a new striker this week. But could any of these be bound for Ibrox?
Mark Warburton hopes to add a striker to his Rangers squad this week, at least according to the Daily Record.
Plenty have been linked so far, but will any of them prove to be Warbs’ elusive front man? HITC assesses their chances…
Sone Aluko (unattached)

Linked by: The Sun
Potential cost: Nothing
Attraction: Has played for Rangers before – and been successful. The fans wouldn’t mind him back either.
Any obstacles? A number of English clubs, at both Premier League and Championship level, have also been linked. His wage demands could leave Rangers out of the loop.
Likelihood: 6/10
Tom Bradshaw (Walsall)

Linked by: Daily Mail
Potential cost: £900,000
Attraction: Rangers would be, without question, the biggest club of his career and such a move is bound to boost his international chances.
Any obstacles? A host of Championship clubs are said to be keen. At 5 ft 10 ins, he doesn’t add a great deal of variety.
Likelihood: 7
Jason Cummings (Hibernian)

Linked by: Scottish Sun
Potential cost: £1 million plus
Attraction: The chance to move up a division and play for one of the few Scottish clubs bigger than Hibs.
Any obstacles? The fallout which followed last month’s Scottish Cup final is said to have soured the two clubs’ relationship. Hibs want him to stay and could use the prospect of European football as a carrot with which to keep him.
Likelihood: 5
Will Grigg (Wigan Athletic)

Linked by: Skybet
Potential cost: Unknown. Wigan paid a reported £1.2 million a year ago and after 28 goals in all competitions, not to mention the Latics’ now higher-division status, it could be at least three or four times that amount.
Attraction: 50,000 fans signing *that* song is considerably better than 9,500. Success at the top end of Scottish football could see him break into Northern Ireland’s starting eleven.
Any obstacles? See potential cost.
Likelihood: 2
Danny Ings (Liverpool)

Linked by: Skybet
Potential cost: Unknown. Liverpool paid a reported £8 million in compensation for Ings’ 2015 transfer from Burnley – a figure which Rangers would struggle to get anywhere near. A loan deal is perhaps more likely – though still not very.
Attraction: The opportunity to not only get back to full fitness, but also among the goals. If Leigh Griffiths can get 40 in a single Scottish season, so could he.
Any obstacles? Again, see potential cost.
Likelihood: 1
Kyle Lafferty (Norwich City)

Linked by: Kyle Lafferty (Scottish Sun)
Potential cost: Unknown. Norwich are said to have paid just shy of £4 million for the Ulsterman in 2014, but want him off the wage bill following their relegation back to the Championship. He has a year left on his deal, which should keep things fairly reasonable.
Attraction: Unfinished business. His height would bring variety to the table, thus enhancing his first team chances.
Any obstacles? His transfer fee could still be too high, and the same goes for wages.
Likelihood: 4
James Vaughan (Birmingham City)

Linked by: The Sun
Potential cost: Unknown. Vaughan’s loan spell at Birmingham was recently made permanent, but with his contract only running for a year, not to mention a worrying lack of goals last season – zero, in fact – the Blues might be willing to co-operate.
Attraction: A reunion with former teammate David Weir. While the Scottish Premiership is so often the ideal tonic for a striker struggling to score.
Any obstacles? Vaughan might wish to make a fist of things at his hometown club.
Likelihood: 7
