Belgium's Axel Witsel shoots at goal

Quoted by Inside Futbol, one of the representatives of Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel has revealed that a move to Everton is unlikely for his client due to a lack of Champions League football.

The Guardian reported earlier this month that new Everton boss Ronald Koeman wanted to bring the 27-year-old to Goodison Park this summer.

The Zenit midfielder has looked quite impressive during Euro 2016 so far and has started and finished all four of the Red Devils' outings in France.

His stock is rising and, as a result, Emanuele Cammaroto, head of communications for the Universal Group which looks after Witsel, says that the former Benfica man wants a move to a Champions League club.

"In England, Witsel's name has been linked with various teams, including particularly Everton, but, in this sense, the footballer has clearly stated that he wishes to play in the Champions League," he told Radio Kiss Kiss, via Inside Futbol.

Everton, under Roberto Martinez, finished 11th last time out, but it is obvious from the quality of their squad that they could potentially be top-four challengers with the right man in charge

That might well be Koeman's pitch to his targets who have concerns about an abscence of Champions League qualification, though it remains to be seen how convincing the Dutchman is.
