Ibrox side Rangers can win the Scottish Premiership title next season, says Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips.

Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers can win the Scottish Premiership title next season with Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar.

Rangers have signed former Newcastle United and QPR midfielder Barton on a free in the summer transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Kranjcar is on the verge of signing a two-year contract with Scottish Premiership-bound Rangers.

Scotland international winger Phillips played with Barton and Kranjcar at QPR, and he believes that the duo can lead Rangers to Scottish Premiership glory next season.

“I do believe Joey and Niko can help Rangers win the league,” Phillips told The Scottish Sun. “They are the type of players who thrive on a challenge, especially Joey.

“They are not coming up to Scotland to settle for second best, that’s for sure. They will be determined to match and then beat Celtic for the league title. They can bring that little bit extra, I am looking forward to see how they get on.”

Barton and Kranjcar are high-profile footballers who would certainly add to the quality of the current Rangers squad.

The Gers won the Scottish Championship title with ease this past season, but they will find it hard in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 campaign.

Celtic will be favourites for the league title next season, and they will be the stronger team regardless of the signings that Old Firm rivals Rangers make in the summer transfer window. The Gers, though, should be able to give the Bhoys a run for their money.
