The Hoops have reportedly baulked at Brentford’s Jake Bidwell asking price.
Brentford’s Bidwell: A pricey R’s target
Queens Park Rangers will not spend £3 million on any one player this summer, a report by Get West London claims.
The Hoops’ move for Brentford defender Jake Bidwell is said to have stalled after the Bees quoted the above asking price, despite the 23-year-old having 12 months left on his deal.
QPR finished 12th in last season’s Championship, having spent more than £8 million on the transfers of Massimo Luongo, Tjaronn Chery and Conor Washington alone (Transfermarkt reports).
Washington cost a reported £2.5m from Peterborough in January
And, according to Get West London, manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been forced to adopt a thrifty approach to recruitment as a result.
The R’s are said to be targeting European-based bargains – with their focus on France and Italy in particular – as well as free agents from the Football League, with Burton Albion’s Damien McCrory listed as a potential left-back target last month.
Burton’s McCrory is a reported target for his former boss at Loftus Road
The report claims Hasselbaink may also consider academy graduate Cole Kpekawa as a Bidwell alternative, in another bid to limit his side’s expenditure.
QPR, who released Armand Traore and saw Paul Konchesky return to Leicester City, could also call upon ex-Liverpool man Jack Robinson.
Kpekawa (L) has spent time at Colchester, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient in recent seasons
