The Iceman will captain his side to a momentous tournament experience.
The European Championships in France are coming up and whilst much of the attention will be on those players who ply their trade in some of the best leagues in the world, there will be plenty of players from the Championship involved as well.
So who makes our list of the top ten players at the Euros from England’s second tier?
The likes of Wolves Dave Edwards, Derby’s Jeff Hendrick and Burnley’s Tom Heaton have all missed out – so who starts at number ten?
Aron Gunnarsson – Cardiff City and Iceland
This inclusion will come as a shock to many. Even his international team-mate Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who was relegated with Charlton Athletic in 2015-16, will suggest he is a better option – and rightly so.
But whilst Gunnarsson has struggled with Cardiff this season, starting just 16 times in the Championship, he remains a vital member of the Iceland national team.
Gunnarsson is his nation’s captain and helped lead them to a sensational qualifying campaign that saw them finish ahead of the Netherlands and Turkey to secure their place at Euro 2016.
Gunnarsson will be looking to put his Cardiff blues behind him by making his nation proud in France this summer.
