Newcastle United's relegation to the Championship was confirmed last night.
Newcastle’s relegation was confirmed yesterday, after Sunderland beat Everton.
The Magpies are currently four points adrift of safety, with just one game remaining this season - which comes against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Newcastle are already planning for Championship life now, and Jenas fears that the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Papiss Cisse and Chancel Mbemba will all depart St. James’ Park.
“Deciding who stays and goes is not so much about ability as attitude,” the former Magpies midfielder said. “You don't want to hold on to players who think they are too good for the second tier.
“There are some players who I think will leave Tyneside regardless, such as Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse, while Chancel Mbemba has had a very good season and I think he will be sought after.”
Sissoko has previously expressed his desire to play in the Champions League, so it would be a major surprise if he was to stay with Newcastle.
Tiote and Cisse, meanwhile, have been tipped to leave Newcastle for some time - and it wouldn’t have been a great shock to see either depart, even if the Tynesiders did stay up.
Mbemba’s loss would arguably be the most disappointing for Newcastle fans, as he has had an impressive first season in English football and remains only 21-years-old.
The last time Newcastle were relegated to the Championship, back in 2009, they went on to bounce straight back and the North East club will be hoping to be similarly successful this time around.
