Report: Sheffield Wednesday eye Estoril defender Yohan Tavares

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is interested in the player on a free transfer.

Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a move for Estoril defender Yohan Tavares, reports A Bola.

The defender is out of contract in the summer transfer window and so far a new deal has failed to materialise.

It seems unlikely to happen either, with him allegedly having told the club that he will seek a new project with a new club next season.

That could be in England, with current Championship side Sheffield Wednesday keen on the 28-year-old according to the A Bola report.

Manager Carlos Carvalhal, who has spent the majority of his career managing in Portuguese football before the move to Wednesday, will be well aware of players in his homeland.

He has kept a close eye on the defender this season, and may move forward with a proposal to bring him to the club.

Much is likely to rest on what division the Owls find themselves playing in next season.

They have secured a play-off place in the Championship, and although they go in as outsiders, a fine campaign means they could find themselves playing Premier League football next year if things go their way.
