Former Rafa Benitez hero Jerzy Dudek predicts Newcastle United survival under his old boss

The Polish keeper played under Benitez at Liverpool.

Newcastle United remain in a battle for survival in the Premier League this season and changed managers in a hope for a change of fortunes. Rafa Benitez took over from Steve McClaren earlier in the year and performances have certainly improved.

It was an interesting decision by Newcastle to go with Rafa. The Spaniard has plenty of success in the game but rarely in a relegation dogfight.

One player who knows all about his success is Jerzy Dudek.

The Polish stopper was one of the heroes as Benitez’s Liverpool overcame the odds to win the Champions League final in Istanbul back in 2005.

He was speaking on talkSPORT this week (06/05/2016) about their chances and seemed positive that Newcastle would stay up under Benitez:

“At the end you need to know how to win the games and I think Rafa Benitez knows exactly how to win the games.

“Newcastle United for me is not a team who needs to be relegated. You see some quality players.

“I think this is something new for him (Benitez) but I think he is capable to save this club.”

Newcastle are currently out of the relegation zone in the Premier League but only just and Norwich City and Sunderland have a game in hand on Benitez’s men.

Newcastle however do have the momentum currently and another win today against already relegated Aston Villa will no doubt have Newcastle fans dreaming of a great escape.
