Rangers players deserve the accolades, says David Weir

The Gers have enjoyed success on multiple fronts under Mark Warburton.

Rangers players deserve the plaudits coming their way, assistant manager David Weir has told the club’s official website.

The Gers are set to return to the Scottish Premiership next season after winning the Scottish Championship this season.

It is not the only success they have enjoyed though, having won the Petrofac Cup and secured themselves a place in the Scottish Cup final.

The latter of those came at the expense of Old Firm rivals Celtic, with Mark Warburton’s side putting in a highly impressive performance against Ronny Deila’s side in the semi-final.

That display, as well as most across the season, has earned rave reviews from many and Weir says the current crop of Gers stars are more than deserving of it.

“The players have worked exceptionally hard this season, the goal has been clear in regards to what is expected of them and what is perceived as being successful,” he told rangers.co.uk.

“They’ve achieved that and they’ve achieved it with time to spare, so they deserve the accolades that are coming their way.

“It’s never easy to win a league, any league, so they have done that and deserve everything that goes with it.”

With the league secured, Rangers' attention is now firmly on that cup final as they seek to make it a triple success this season.

Beyond that, they will know that work is needed on improving this current squad to compete in the Scottish top flight next season and beyond.

Many are expecting Rangers to challenge Celtic for the title, and if that is to happen Mark Warburton will need several smart signings to bridge the gap between the two sides.
