Newcastle United fans react on Twitter to Mousa Dembele's eye gouge

Newcastle fans want Tottenham's Mousa Dembele to be banned for the final game of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele soured his night against Chelsea with an ugly off the ball incident involving Diego Costa.

Dembele was caught on camera jabbing a finger towards the eye of Chelsea striker Diego Costa, and while the Spanish international made the most of it, there is no doubting the Tottenham midfielder was in the wrong.

The incident was unseen by the referee and Dembele is likely to face retrospective action from the FA as a result.

Dele Alli was banned last week after punching West Brom's Claudio Yacob off the ball, and Dembele's suspension would be another blow to Spurs.

BBC pundit Steve Claridge told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I have seen that Dembele-Costa incident and it's a scratch. I think he is going to struggle to get away with that one."

There would be one big beneficiary, and that is Newcastle United, who have to play Tottenham at St James' Park on the final day of the season.

Newcastle are battling for survival, and the prospect of facing Tottenham would have been a a grim one considering their form this season.

Yet with Alli suspended and Dembele seemingly set to get a ban of his own, with Tottenham missing out on the title, Newcastle fans are suddenly feeling a lot more positive about the clash.

Here is a look at how they reacted to the incident via Twitter...
