The defender has been suspended by the club pending a doping investigation.
The defender has been cited for taking a fat burner substance that is on UEFA’s banned substance list.
He has not been suspended by UEFA, and is still eligible to play for the club, but the Reds have decided they will not make him available for selection while the investigation us underway.
It is believed that the player tested positive for the substance following the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Europa League last month.
The news will come as a huge blow after the Frenchman has impressed in the heart of the defence in recent weeks and Liverpool fans have shared their views on Twitter following the news.

It will now be interesting to see how the Reds deal with Sakho’s absence during his suspension.
He has been highly impressive alongside Dejan Lovren as the Reds have shone in recent weeks, with it looking like they had finally solved their defensive issues as a result.
Who comes in to replace him will be interesting, with it potentially being the chance for Martin Skrtel to earn his place once again.
