Next Aston Villa boss faces tough job in ruthless Championship, says Jenas

The Villans were officially relegated to the Championship on Saturday.

The next Aston Villa manager is set for a seriously tough job in the ruthless Championship, Jermaine Jenas has told Match of the Day, broadcast from 10:20pm on April 16.

The Villans' relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United.

It brought about an end to a disastrous campaign for the Villa Park club, with them now facing a daunting campaign in the second flight next season.

First they must find a new permanent manager, with Eric Black currently in temporary charge, and Jenas says they definitely need someone who has experience in the division.

“They’ve made some positive changes I would say,” he told Match of the Day.

“The next big decision is who will be the manager that is going to try and get them out of the Championship and into the Premier League.

“It’s a seriously tough job. They definitely need someone who’s got experience in that league because it’s ruthless down there.”

It is certainly a widely accepted idea that a manager with experience of the Championship would be the wisest move next from Villa.

If that is the case, then surely Nigel Pearson is the man they should target given his success with Leicester City in that league previously.

Indeed, as a long-term appointment he would also be wise with Premier League experience under his belt also given the success he enjoyed in keeping the Foxes in the division last season.
