The Reds skipper has urged his side to ignore the fanfare surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s return when they face the German side on Thursday.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told the club’s official website that the players must ignore the fanfare surrounding the return of Jurgen Klopp when they take on Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Klopp’s side travel to Signal Iduna Park for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final for the first return of the German manager to his former club since leaving at the end of last season.

Understandably, there has been intense media coverage of Klopp’s reunion with his former club, with one TV channel confirming they will run a ‘Klopp cam’ which will focus on the manager before and during the match.

However, Henderson has called for his teammates to focus purely on the match at hand as if it were any other fixture, as he believes any distractions will make the task a far more difficult one for the Reds.

The England midfielder told reporters, as quoted by the Daily Mail: “It might be different for the boss going back to his old club but for us as players we need to go there, concentrate on the game and what we need to do and just focus on the job in hand.

“It will be a great occasion for everyone over there and it will be an even better one if we can get a good result there.

“It’s a very big game against a very good team. A few of the lads when we were away with England were saying how good they are. It will be tough. They have some top players but with the players we’ve got here I believe we can go there and get a good result.”

Liverpool will be fully aware of how difficult a match they face, with Dortmund having comfortably seen off Premier League title-chasers Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 on aggregate in the previous round.

On what is certain to be a hugely emotional day for Klopp and the home supporters, the Reds will be desperate to avoid a damaging defeat and bring a positive result back to Anfield.
