Report: Tottenham Hotspur still want Piero Ausilio as sporting director, but Italian wants to stay at Inter Milan

Spurs are looking to bring in a replacement for Franco Baldini.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked in the past with the appointment of a new sporting director. Franco Baldini stepped down as Technical Director in September after a struggle at White Hart Lane.

Since then player recruitment at Tottenham has been down to Paul Mitchell and Rob Mackenzie and it has proved dividends that change.

However, the club are believed to still want an experienced technical director to oversee things at the club and one potential option is Inter Milan’s Piero Ausilio.

Goal Italy are now reporting that Spurs remain interested in Ausilio, but they are unlikely to get hold of their man.

The report claims that Inter are in talks with Ausilio regarding the extension of his contract in Milan – which expires next July.

It also claims that Ausilio does not want a Tottenham switch, as he feels he has earned his place at the top of the Inter tree and is hoping to continue the revival at the San Siro.

Spurs fans will not be overly upset about this news. Baldini’s reign saw some woeful signings by Spurs, although the likes of Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela have proven hits.

But Tottenham appear to be doing fine in the transfer market with Mitchell and Mackenzie and Spurs could easily go on regarding recruitment without another appointment.
