West Ham's Martin Samuelsen earns first Norway U21 call-up

The West Ham United teenager is impressing this season.

West Ham United midfielder Martin Samuelsen has received his first call-up to Norway’s under-21 side, which is yet another sign of his impressive form this season.

The 18-year-old arrived at Upton Park last summer after being inexplicably released by Manchester City, and he showed in some impressive pre-season performances what a talent he is.

After two cameo appearances in West Ham’s Europa League qualifying campaign, Samuelsen was sent on loan to League One club Peterborough United and he has not looked back, putting in some dazzling displays.

The most notable of those was in the FA Cup against West Bromwich Albion, where he showed his balance, composure, confidence and innate talent to embarrass players far more experienced than him.

It was a sign that he could return to West Ham this summer ready to challenge for a first-team spot and the news of his international call-up shows his form has not gone unnoticed by his country.

While it would be wrong to expect too much too soon from the West Ham youngster, he really does look like the real deal, and it will be interesting to see how he does having stepped up from Norway’s under-18s to their under-21s.
