Frank McAvennie admits he would love to play alongside Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho

Frank McAvennie has labelled Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho 'good players'.

West Ham United legend Frank McAvennie has told the Daily Mail that he would love to play alongside current Hammers stars Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho.

McAvennie, now 56, hit 49 goals in 153 games over two spells with West Ham, becoming something of a club hero during his time with the Hammers.

The Scottish former striker remains a favourite among West Ham fans, and the former Celtic star will no doubt be watching when West Ham take on Manchester United today.

West Ham travel to Old Trafford for their FA Cup quarter final this afternoon, and they will be full of confidence after three wins in a row, spearheaded by playmaker Dimitri Payet.

The Frenchman, 28, has been simply sensational since his summer move from Marseille, and he is a large reason for West Ham being just two points adrift of the Champions League places in the Premier League table.

Now, McAvennie has praised playmaker Payet in an interview with the Daily Mail, stating that he would love to play alongside him - but he isn't the only West Ham player picked out by McAvennie.

Praise has been offered to Mark Noble, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio this season, but McAvennie unsurprisingly named a fellow striker as a player he would want to play with, picking out Senegal international Diafra Sakho, who scored in last weekend's dramatic 3-2 win over Everton.

"I have always thought football is about entertainment. I’d give anything to train with the modern Barcelona. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, och, they’re brilliant," said McAvennie. "It’s different but I do like this West Ham team. Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho — I’d love to play with them. Good players," he added.
