Gokhan Inler has not made much of an impression at Leicester City after joining last summer.

Gokhan Inler has told the Daily Mail that he rejected West Ham United and Sunderland to join Leicester City last summer.

Inler was one of Leicester’s marquee signings before the season started, but he has not made the impact at the King Power Stadium that most people were expecting.

The central-midfielder has featured in just 10 matches for the Foxes so far, but he insists that he has no regrets about turning down West Ham’s and Sunderland’s advances.

“I said no to West Ham, Sunderland and Schalke to join Leicester, and I would do the same again,” he said. “I won't run away and give up on the club's project.

“I wanted a challenge and I have got one for sure.”

Inler’s first season in England could be a title winning one, as Leicester are currently five points clear at the top of the league.

The Foxes have performed above all expectations, and Inler’s teammates’ consistent excellence has kept him out of the team.

Inler may well have played more if he had chosen to join West Ham or Sunderland.

West Ham, themselves, have enjoyed a wonderful campaign and they are pushing to claim a top four spot.

Sunderland, meanwhile, are fighting against relegation - and they currently only have a one-point cushion over the bottom three.
