Redknapp sees Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez moving on this summer

Riyad Mahrez has been superb for Leicester City this season.

Harry Redknapp believes Leicester City will keep all of their better players this summer and challenge again next season with the exception of Riyad Mahrez, the Telegraph reports.

The Foxes have been sensational this season, and are nine games away from winning the Premier League title as they currently hold a five-point advantage over second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Although Champions League football is all but assured, a club of Leicester’s size must be wary of a number of their star performers attracting the attentions of the so-called big clubs this summer.

Redknapp, however, believes the likes of Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante will remain at the King Power Stadium but fears holding on to winger Mahrez will prove a challenge too far.

“I can realistically see Mahrez going, he is a huge talent and may get a big pay-day somewhere. Vardy has also been fantastic but is he a sexy enough name for one of the Big Five? They will probably go for someone from Spain, Uruguay or Argentina who we’ve never heard of,” Redknapp wrote.

“I think this squad will stay together and challenge again next season.”

Mahrez joined Leicester as an unknown quantity from Le Havre, and he has since turned out to be one of the best bargain buys of any European team this side of the millennium.

The Algeria international has had a sensational campaign, scoring 15 Premier League goals and adding a further 11 assists in 28 league appearances.

Talk of Barcelona has already cropped up, as published by the Daily Mail back in September, and that was before his season really took off as he has the most goals and assists combined in the league.
