Tottenham's Christian Eriksen records his highest number of interceptions in three seasons

Tottenham Hotspur Christian Eriksen set a personal best against Swansea City.

Danish international Christian Eriksen is paid to create goals and score them, and he often does so for Tottenham Hotspur with great effect.

Not usually highlighted very often is his hard work without the ball, but this came to the fore in Tottenham's match against Swansea City.

Spurs had to work hard and battle their way to grind out a 2-1 win after going a goal down to the visitors, and keep their title push going.

Eriksen was a key part of this, recording five interceptions in the victory. This was a figure which was his highest in three seasons at the club in Premier League matches.

For the Dane to set a personal record which largely corresponds to his work off the ball, is a credit to his fitness, and an example of how head coach Mauricio Pochettino's intense training sessions are paying off.

For much of the game Tottenham were in need of a goal to either equalise or grab the winner, and Eriksen's work in winning the ball back for his team and breaking up Swansea's play showed just how much he wanted it.

In an attacking sense Eriksen was just as important, creating three chances, and recording four shots on target from six attempts, while making 71 passes, more than any player in the Tottenham team.

Spurs are now three points clear of Arsenal heading into the midweek matches, and two behind leaders Leicester City. With 33 points still to play for, a title charge really could be on.
