Doug Ellis extremely critical of Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner

Aston Villa owner Lerner has come under severe criticism this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Doug Ellis has criticised Randy Lerner for his unwillingness to come and watch Aston Villa play, despite being the owner and chairman of the Premier League club.

Ellis said: “I'm rather sad that the man I sold to hasn't given more of his time to come and see Aston Villa play. I'd love it [if Lerner came to a home game].”

It was Ellis who sold Villa to Lerner in 2006, and recently the American has stopped heading to England to watch his club play.

Ellis may come under criticism for his role in breaking up Villa’s European Cup winning side, but he is an angel compared to Lerner, who seems to have forsaken the club.

He is looking to sell them, and seems to have just forgotten about keeping them as a desirable product, with it almost guaranteed that Villa are set to be relegated at the end of this season.

Lerner is the main source of fan anger right now, and whilst he may not want to head to Villa Park, it could potentially ease the criticism aimed at him.

If he showed his face at the club, it would prove that he is still trying to be involved, and Ellis wants to see the man he sold Villa to back at Villa Park before too long.
