Ex-Real Madrid and West Ham United midfielder Julien Faubert has gone on trial with SPL side St. Johnstone.
Former Real Madrid flop Julien Faubert could join Scottish Premier League side St. Johnstonr after being handed a trial with the club, according to multiple sources including the Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Bordeaux last summer and is now looking to win a deal with the Perthshire club.
The midfielder, who scored on his only appearance for the French national team in 2006 and who now plays international football for the French overseas region of Martinique, played for the Scottish side’s Under-20s team on Monday night.
Faubert made over 100 appearances for West Ham in five seasons with the club despite an inauspicious start hampered by persistent injury problems.
In January 2009 he made a shock switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the 2008-09 season, with Real reported to have had the option to sign him permanently for around £1.5 million that summer.
However, he failed to impress in the Spanish capital, making just two appearances in all competitions.
He held down a regular spot in the Hammers side for two out of his three remaining seasons at the club upon returning to Upton Park, before moving to Turkey upon the expiration of his contract.
Faubert will now hope to be given the chance to enhance St. Johnstone’s bid for a top-half finish in the Scottish top flight.
