The English club face a tough battle if they do make a move.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has had to get through some struggles this season but he now has the team playing their best football as they move into European contention once again.

The club are however already looking to the future and will be hoping to bring in another talent from Dutch football.

It is reported by TMW that Southampton are keeping tabs on PSV Eindhoven playmaker Adam Maher.

The 22-year-old Dutch international has been magnificent for PSV since miving from AZ Alkmaar in 2013 and is now being linked with a move abroad in the summer.

It is claimed that Southampton have the lead in the chase but that Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also in the hunt for the player – who would be available for a fee in the region of €6.5 million (£5.1 million).

This comes despite Maher not currently being a regular choice in the PSV midfield, making most of his appearances for the club from the bench this season.

Koeman has pulled in some great talent from Dutch football already – with Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Jordy Clasie just a few examples.
