Real Madrid star makes an admission about Kane, gives Mauricio Pochettino verdict

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric spent four years at Tottenham Hotspur.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has admitted on BBC’s Football Focus that he did not know much about Harry Kane when he was at Tottenham Hotspur.

Modric was on the books of Tottenham for four years from 2008 to 2012, before moving to Spanish giants Madrid.

During his time at Spurs, the 30-year-old Croatia international established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

The 2014 Champions League winner has revealed that he did not know much about Kane when he was at Tottenham.

Modric, though, has revealed that he was impressed with the 22-year-old striker’s dedication in training.

“At the time, to be honest, no,” said the former Dinamo Zagreb star on BBC’s Football Focus when asked if Kane was on his radar when he was at Tottenham. “You could see that he is a hard worker.

“Sometimes he used to come to training in short sleeves when outside it was minus 5. I saw at that time that he is a very hard worker.”

Tottenham are fighting for the Premier League title this season, and Modric is delighted to see his former club doing so well.

The Madrid star has also spoken highly of Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

"I follow them (Tottenham) a lot,” said Modric. “Whenever I can, I watch them play. Now they are playing really well - amazing. They have a good coach (Mauricio Pochettino) and they are very close to winning the league.

“I wish them all the best, and I have my fingers crossed for them to win it, because I think they are capable of it because they are playing really very good football.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 48 points from 25 matches, five points behind leaders Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Madrid currently find themselves third in La Liga with 50 points from 23 matches, four points behind leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
