Klopp should be pleased despite Liverpool's cup exit to West Ham, says David James

Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by the Hammers on Tuesday evening.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should be pleased despite his side’s FA Cup exit to West Ham United on Tuesday, David James has told BT Sport.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by the Hammers in their fourth round replay at Upton Park on Tuesday, with a late header from Angelo Ogbonna sending Slaven Bilic’s side through to the fifth round.

Despite the disappointing end, it was in fact a decent performance from Klopp’s side, who created a number of chances throughout the game to progress themselves.

And James says that despite the loss, Klopp should be pleased with the way his side played, especially given that he decided to go with an experimental line-up once again.

“I think Jurgen has got to be happy with what he’s seen,” he told BT Sport.

“Once again he’s put out an inexperienced side, with a lot of inexperienced players, who’ve held their own against a side who are doing well in the Premier League.”

Klopp will now be hoping his side can focus on the Premier League with a place in Europe very much up for grabs at the end of the season.

Liverpool are currently ninth in the table, just four points away from West Ham United in sixth and six behind Manchester United in fifth.

That means a place in the top six is certainly within their reach with 13 games remaining of the season.
