Some Leeds United supporters have urged the club to bring Neil Redfearn back after he was sacked by Rotherham United on Monday afternoon.
However, he failed to move Rotherham clear of the relegation zone during his 21 matches at the New York Stadium, and quickly paid the price.
Leeds fans are now hoping that the 50-year-old could come back to Elland Road, but a return seems unlikely given the acrimonious nature of his departure from the club last summer.
#lufc Sad to see Redfearn lose his job, partly because somewhere in Leeds/Miami/cloudcuckooland there is a Man feeling mistakenly justified.— Matt Stoney (@mattstoney35) February 8, 2016
Rotherham supporters have been left baffled by the news that Redfearn has been sacked, too.
Although the Millers are currently in the relegation zone, very few of their supporters appear to have actively wanted Redfearn to leave - at least judging by the reaction on social media site Twitter.
@OfficialRUFC Whether he was the right appointment or not initially is not the issue. A few months is not enough time at all!— James Symonds (@SymondsJS789) February 8, 2016
@OfficialRUFC loool know your place he was hardly underachieving pals— leah (@leahwallerx) February 8, 2016
Big surprise about Neil Redfearn sacking by #RUFC. Allowed to sign players and hire assistant, then sacked one game later. Makes no sense— Will Walton (@walton_will) February 8, 2016
Redfearn leaves Rotherham with the side sitting in 22nd place in the Championship table - two points adrift of safety.
