Speaking to talkSPORT, former Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has shared his thoughts on the club’s fight for survival, suggesting that a few back-to-back wins could pull other teams back into the fight.
Sherwood said: “It looks bleak but they have to believe they can still do it. Back-to-back wins are going to be crucial, and if they can do that I think they’ll be able to drag some teams in who are above them at the moment.”
Sherwood is correct to say that Villa’s situation looks bleak right now, with Remi Garde’s team on just 13 points after 24 games.
They are six points behind Sunderland in 19th place, and 10 points behind Norwich City in the final spot required Premier League safety.
Garde’s team do not look to be getting any better, and they are in just as bad a situation as they were when Sherwood was sacked earlier this season.
However, the nature of this Premier League season means that anyone can beat anyone, and it is foolish to suggest that Villa are already relegated.
A few wins would push them back into contention for survival, and Sherwood believes they need to quickly record back-to-back victories to close the gap between the bottom five clubs - who could still all be relegated.
Villa take on Norwich City this weekend, a vital game which could increase chances of survival with a victory, and Garde needs to ensure his team are going to fight all-out for the three points.
