Liverpool caught napping in the transfer market - another Dele Alli error?

Liverpool missed out on a deal for James Maddison, to Norwich City.

Did Liverpool get caught napping in the transfer market over League One sensation James Maddison?

The Times reported late on deadline day that the Reds were keen on signing Maddison from Coventry City, but had decided to wait until the summer.

The report stated: "Liverpool have held talks with Coventry City about James Maddison but will delay a move for the highly rated midfield player until the end of this season."

Seemingly the Reds shut up shop early on deadline day and switched off the lights at Anfield well in advance of 11pm for an early night, with no deals being done.

Yet while they were sleeping, Norwich City snuck in and got their man.

With a deal completed in the final few minutes, Norwich City closed a deal to sign Maddison and loaned him back to Coventry for the rest of the season, with The BBC reporting the fee as undisclosed.

Maddison, 19, is an attacking midfielder who was described by The Times earlier in the month as the new Dele Alli.

Liverpool will have to hope he does not pan out to be as good as the Spurs man they also missed out on, but the worry is their laid back approach has just seen them repeat the same mistake.
