Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has told talkSPORT that Saido Berahino should not move to Newcastle United.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham, Newcastle United, and Stoke City are all interested in signing the striker from West Bromwich Albion.
“If you’re his agent or his Dad, there is no way you could advise him to go to Newcastle at the moment,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“That would be ludicrous because he could be a Championship player in six months’ time, and he certainly wouldn’t be in contention for the England squad then.”
Newcastle are struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment and are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.
Murphy’s comments may sound harsh for Newcastle fans, but they make perfect sense. West Brom are not entirely safe yet, but the Baggies are likely to retain their Premier League status for next season.
The problem is that Berahino has not played much this season, and his form has not been great. The 22-year-old former England Under-21 international striker has scored just three goals and created only four chances in 18 Premier League appearances for the Baggies so far this campaign.
Berahino has a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 58%, and has won two headers, eight dribbles and five tackles.
