The Liverpool icon believes the 23-year-old could end up saving the club a fortune.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes Joao Teixeira could save the Anfield club a fortune – if he can get his contract sorted out.

Indeed, Aldridge is worried about Teixeira’s contract situation despite the fact he is clearly showing potential for the Reds.

He featured for Liverpool on Saturday afternoon as they drew 0-0 with West Ham United in the FA Cup.

The 23-year-old made his Premier League debut for Liverpool back when Brendan Rodgers was in charge and has shown promise ever since.

For all the credit Liverpool’s academy gets, however, there are so many young players that simply end up slipping through the net.

That’s not the fault of the academy itself but rather the fact the transition from the fringes to the first team isn’t well managed.

Teixeira is a player of potential and has been for a while. If he’s not considered good enough, though, it’s best to let him go and stop giving him false hope.
