Report: Newcastle line up new approach for Alexandre Lacazette

Newcastle are once again attempting to sign Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon.

Newcastle are lining up a new offer for Alexandre Lacazette, the Telegraph reports.

Lacazette has already rejected the chance to join the Magpies this month, with L’Equipe claiming that an £18 million bid was sent to Lyon, with the player himself opting against the move to Tyneside.

However, the Telegraph claim that there have been ‘encouraging noises coming from the Lacazette camps in recent days’, with the forward much more willing to link up with the Magpies this month than he was a few weeks ago.

Newcastle have decided to react to Lacazette’s changing views, and they are readying a new offer to submit to Lyon. It is stated that the Tyneside club are willing to pay over £20 million to secure Lacazette, and will hand him a contract that makes him one of the highest earners at St James’ Park.

Steve McClaren has made it a priority to add a new striker the month, with Papiss Cisse the only proven Premier League goalscorer, although injuries have disrupted his season.

The Magpies look like a good team, but they lack someone to put the ball into the back of the net, and Lacazette would be a real statement of intent that they don’t only plan to stay in the Premier League, but actually push for a finish in the upper echelons of the table.

The 24-year-old is a consistent goalscorer in France, and he looks to have all the talent to transpose that record to English football.

If Newcastle have heard that Lacazette is open to a move to the North East, they should be doing all they can to move for the striker as soon as possible.
