What’s the best job in the UK right now?
Careers website has put together the definitive ranking, so we no longer have to wonder. And some of the entries may strike you as surprising dream jobs.
Sure, there may be more people out there dreaming of a future as a pop star or top footballer than becoming, say, an HR manager, but Glassdoor’s ranking is based on three criteria: the career opportunities, number of openings, and base salary.
In other words, these are the jobs that are easy to get, pay well and have a decent chance of promotion. Sign us up.
Claiming the number one spot in the 2016 ranking, the UK’s business development managers have it made. With 5,143 job openings out there, an average base salary of £40,000 and a career opportunities rating of 3.5 this is the best job to have.
The runner-up is finance manager and the number three spot is claimed by operations manager.
Given the booming UK tech sector, you might expect tech jobs to be hot on the charts, but in fact, only two make make the ranking: software engineer and solutions architect.
Lawyers, mechanical and civil engineers, meanwhile, have fallen out of favour, with all three dropping out of the top 25.
