Former Manchester United youngster Nicholas Ioannou eyes England return

HITC Sports understands a number of clubs are tracking the former Manchester United player.

Former Manchester United youngster Nicholas Ioannou could be set for a return to England with a number of clubs chasing his signature, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal.

The centre-back, who can also play at left-back, joined United's academy when he was 11 and worked his way through the club's age groups, but he never made a first-team appearance.

Ioannou was highly-regarded at Old Trafford and impressed for the club's under-18s before leaving for APOEL Nicosia in the summer of 2014.

The 20-year-old came close to joining Stoke City following his departure from United, but Ioannou decided to return to his native Cyprus.

Ioannou has found his first-team chances limited at APOEL, making just two starts and four appearances in total this season.

The powerful defender is in the final 18 months of his contract at APOEL and HITC Sport understands Ioannou could be available on loan or permanently as he seeks more game-time.

The news has alerted a number of Premier League and Championship clubs to Ioannou's availability and the defender is understood to be keen on a move back to England.
