If Florian Thauvin leaves now, would that make him Newcastle's worst ever signing?

The 22-year-old could already be on his way out of St James' Park.

Before Mike Ashley and since, Newcastle United have dropped some real clangers in the transfer market.

But is Florian Thauvin their absolute worst?

Indeed, the Frenchman was brought to Tyneside for £12 million over the summer, according to BBC Sport, and is already on the brink of leaving St James' Park.

As reported by the Daily Mirror, Thauvin may be heading back to Ligue 1 on loan - and it's a rumour that's since been carried by plenty of sites.

Now, Newcastle have made some horrendous signings over the years. And one that immediately springs to mind, though perhaps not the worst, is Remy Cabella.

Thauvin was thought of by many as a Cabella replacement. But Cabella lasted a season and showed a few short glimpses of talent before being loaned out.

Thauvin has barely made it to January, with fans chanting negatively about the 22-year-old on a regular basis, and no glimpses of talent whatsoever forthcoming.

Above, Thauvin can be seen heading into St James' Park ahead of a Premier League clash - wearing a tuxedo.

That's how the Magpies faithful will likely remember him. The Frenchman seems to care a lot about his dress sense - but is less prepared than any of his team-mates to dig in and actually try to play some football.
